The Baixa Grande excursion provides you a chance to immerse yourself in the Lençóis Maranhenses and get a glimpse of the life of its traditional communities . The full day trip starts off with a ride along the endless beaches of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park before endeavoring on a walk across its dunes contemplating the wind and the sculptural beauty of the place. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the lagoons and end your day chasing sunsets!
After breakfast, the 4x4 will pick you up at 8:00 AM from our hotel. Enjoy a 1.5 hour drive along the endless beaches of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park until you arrive at the Rio Negro.
From there, you’ll walk the dunes and cross many lagoons for another 1.5 – 2 hours until you arrive at Baixa Grande, one of the two oases located in the middle of the Lençóis Maranhenses.
Dona Régina will await you with a scrumptious lunch of a free-range chicken at her simple guesthouse and family home. Next to the camp is a refreshing waterhole to take a dip in and cool down.
In the afternoon, once the heat and the sand cools down, by around 3:00 PM you’ll walk back a different route until reuniting with the 4x4 , ready to take you back to the hotel. On the return, you’ll catch a spectacular sunset from the top of a dune before arriving back at the hotel around 6:00 PM to rest and relax.
